House Committee Continues Deliberations with No Final Revisions to Trump Agenda Bill in Sight
The House Rules Committee remains in session and continues debating President Trump’s sweeping agenda bill, hours after first convening around 1 a.m. ET. However, there is still no sign that Republican leaders are close to finalizing a deal, as divisions between conservatives and moderates persist over key provisions.
Democrats have expressed frustration with the drawn-out process, noting that several GOP members have spent little time in the committee room, instead focusing on behind-the-scenes negotiations aimed at securing final language for the bill.
“At this point, some of our members aren’t even in the room,” said Democratic Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon during the proceedings. “They’re out there trying to cut more deals with the Speaker and the White House.”
Later, Democratic Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez called out conservative Rep. Chip Roy by name, remarking that he “hasn’t been here much tonight.”
If the bill passes the House, it will move to the Senate, where Republicans have already indicated plans to push for additional amendments.
