Jury Delivers Mixed Verdict in Sean "Diddy" Combs Sex-Trafficking Trial
The jury has reached a verdict in the highly publicized sex-trafficking trial of music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs, acquitting him of the most serious charges while convicting him on two lesser counts.
Combs was found not guilty of racketeering and not guilty of sex trafficking allegations involving his former partner, Cassie Ventura, and another woman referred to as “Jane.” However, the jury did find him guilty on two counts of transportation for the purpose of engaging in prostitution, related to both Ventura and "Jane."
Each of the charges he was convicted of carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
What the Verdict Means
The mixed outcome represents a partial legal victory for Combs. The racketeering and sex trafficking charges—each of which could have carried much stiffer penalties—were central to the prosecution's case. Had he been convicted on those counts, Combs could have faced decades behind bars.
Instead, he was only convicted on two lesser charges, which, while still serious, carry comparatively lighter sentences.
The racketeering charge was particularly notable, typically reserved for organized crime figures. Prosecutors alleged that Combs operated a criminal enterprise through his businesses and staff. The jury ultimately rejected that claim.
The Prosecution’s Case
Prosecutors argued that Combs orchestrated drug-fueled sexual encounters—known as “freak-offs” or “hotel nights”—in which his partners were pressured or coerced into participating in sex acts with male escorts, often while being watched, recorded, or directed by Combs himself.
Cassie Ventura, who testified while visibly pregnant, gave an emotional and detailed account of these alleged encounters. "Jane," the other key witness, offered similar testimony.
Combs’ Defense
Combs’ legal team argued that the relationships and encounters described were consensual. They presented text messages and other evidence in an effort to cast doubt on the prosecution’s narrative.
Emotional Courtroom Reaction
The jury deliberated for 13 hours over three days. When the verdict was read aloud, Combs remained stone-faced. Moments earlier, he had prayed with his children and embraced his legal team.
After the acquittals on the major charges were announced, Combs knelt down, appearing to pray. He then stood, clapped loudly, and embraced his family and legal team—who joined him in an emotional show of relief, even in the overflow room.
What Happens Next?
The exact length of Combs’ prison sentence remains undetermined. A separate sentencing hearing will be scheduled. Prosecutors are urging the court to impose the full 20 years—10 years for each count.
Prosecutor Maurene Comey stated, “It is clear the defendant poses a danger.”
For now, it’s still unclear whether Combs will remain in custody pending sentencing. The prosecution has asked for him to stay behind bars, while his defense has requested bail.
This marks a pivotal moment in a case that began with a single lawsuit from Cassie Ventura in late 2023 and has since spiraled into a major legal battle involving multiple accusers and national attention.
